I believe this ICT sector to be among the most fascinating of the arising Society of the Knowledge, because – of the wide range of technologies used, of the disciplines involved and application fields concerned - it entails naturally being a node of networks, to co-operate, to learn, to innovate and to share our society’s change, participating in the paradigm “sustainability-subsidiarity-solidarity”.

- Sergio Farruggia took a degree in Physics at the University of Genoa in 1979. He is Professional GI Consultant. He has been senior manager at the Municipality of Genoa, since 1995 till 2007, chief of the Geographical Information System Sector. Other present position are: member of the scientific committee of the Federation of the Italian Scientific Associations for Geographical and Environmental Information (ASITA), since March 2007; member of the National Committee for Spatial Data Coordination (Italian IT Ministry), since November 2004; member of the advisory committee of the Geographic Graduate Course Board (University of Genoa), since 2004; Executive Board member of the Scientific Association: AM/FM GIS, Italy section, since 1996; Executive Committee member of the Geographical Information Systems International Group, GISIG, since 1996.
