Three people in the GIS/RS field lost their jobs just this week due to funding drying up from state governments (one in Oregon two in Calif.). My wife has been out her Remote Sensing field for two years and has a helluva time getting back into it.

Profile Information

Location:
Portland, OR
About Me:
My name is Andres, and I am the founder of Cartosoft, a small Internet Mapping Solutions company based out of Portland, Oregon. I have worked in various capacities in all three sectors (public, private, non-profit) of the Geospatial industry.
Website:
http://www.cartosoft.com
Expertise:
I "grew up" with the ESRI suite of products, and consider myself fairly literate with their desktop/web products. I recently became much more familiar with more "open" platforms and products, including the Google Maps API, open-source map servers, and miscellaneous other tools.

I also have significant project management and operations experience. I could go on and on...
GeoSpatial Interests:
I have a diverse set of interests. At present I am interested in Internet Mapping and how it can be used to extend the reach of Geospatial technology to a broader audience. I am particularly interested in getting GIS and related technology into the hands of those who have a need for the technology, but who cannot implement it by themselves.

Hi,

Do you swap links, other than by signing up, which I have done?

Thanks,

Gene

Hi Anders, thanks for the warm welcome. BTW, I found this space by way of wherecamp-pdx and your 'will-it-stick' blog entry.

Thanks for the welcoming. I've been in Portland for about 10 years though :)
